Sal DaiZovi
Thursday, Dec 01, 2022Energetic, confident and go-getter are just a few words that describe FAU Alumni Sal DaiZovi. He graduated with two degrees from Florida Atlantic University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management Organization. After graduating, a recruiter helped him find a job at Decorwraps, the leading supplier of distinctive packaging options for big brand names such as Target, Home Depot, and Sam's Club. DaiZovi worked there for two years under the mentorship of Bibi Pulido, a time that he remembers fondly.
"We had one project where I got to work with Queen Latifah and her team. I got to pitch in a design with her face, brand, and logo in it,"said DaiZovi.
After that, he went to RedLine Media Group where he worked mostly with Hard Rock in Tampa creating and designing a menu for their cafe. Since then, DaiZovi has been working hard towards one goal - opening his own business.
For the past 4 years, DaiZovi has been teaching himself, both in and out of the school setting, about animation and motion. He loves going to school and learning new things every day. He talks about School of Motion and how that helped him find the focus he wants to base his career in.
"They've definitely helped me because I was outgrowing things. I was ready for the next step. I didn't know what that step was. Then, School of Motion came into my life and just connected all the dots. They've given me tremendous amounts of support,"said DaiZovi.
During his time at FAU, DaiZovi worked on the magazine Remarque with his graphics design team. He remembers his experience there and the advice that graphic design Professor Stephanie Cunningham gave him before starting his career.
"Be in the workforce for eight to ten years because you're going to find your voice. You're going to find a point of view. You're going to have your own style after that time. You have life experience,"DaiZovi shared. "Which I can attest to now because it's been eight years and I'm like, okay, I don't like any of this stuff anymore. I think I found my voice and I know who I am as an artist, and now I'm ready for the next step."he said.
DaiZovi is currently moving away from graphic design and focusing more on animation and motion graphics. He hopes in five to ten years to open his own studio and his main purpose is to tell untold stories. "I feel everybody has a story to tell. And animation is a great way to tell those stories in a variety of ways. I can make characters tell the story and get voice overs or they can have no voice whatsoever."he said.
He is a fan of Japanese animation, such as Studio Ghibli and is excited that Avatar studios opened, and hopes to one day partner with them. His business degree allows him to run the business side of the graphic design industry plus having prior knowledge from working for companies; on what to do and what not to do. Before he shares anyone’s story, he has to share his first. "Vulnerability is important because I don't think I can share someone else's story until I share mine,"said DaiZovi.
