Jannatul Begum

Jannatul Begum graduated from Lake Worth Community High School and came to the Wilkes Honors College with an interest in Neuroscience. As Jannatul explains, “I chose the HC because of the small, interactive class sizes. On my first visit, I had the opportunity to sit in an interdisciplinary class, and I was in awe at listening to the interrelated scholarly debates between students and faculty. I was emboldened to know that I too would be encouraged to integrate my own interest in neuroscience with other fields of studies for a comprehensive and versatile education.” Jannatul interned with the Duboue Laboratory in order to study genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying stress and anxiety disorders while also participating in a STEM outreach program to mentor high school students from Title I schools. After graduation, she hopes to begin her own mentoring program and attend medical school.
