Business and Professional Women's Scholarship House (BPWSH)
The FAU Business and Professional Women’s Scholarship House (BPWSH) was established to provide campus housing for women with strong academic promise and substantial outside financial assistance in order to attend FAU. The BPWSH is a cooperative living/learning facility where 17 women share leadership experience, develop life skills, and community responsibilities.
The FAU Department of Housing and Residential Education, through Residence Education staff, oversee the BPWSH operation. The BPWSH is truly a cooperative living environment in which residents learn skills necessary to run the house effectively and efficiently. Through their elected officers, residents are responsible for all house operations, including finances, cleaning, purchasing and preparing food.
BPWSH APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
- Be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking female student who is a transfer or current returning undergraduate or graduate student. A resident may be required to withdrawal from BPWSH if enrolled credit hours drop below full-time status.
- Must be a Florida Resident.
- Require substantial outside financial assistance in order to attend college (a minimum of $1,500 of unmet need as determined by the applicant’s FAU Student Financial Aid Award Letter or Student Aid Report).
- Must have a high school, college/university or FAU cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Demonstrated high academic promise and achievement in high school and/or college.
- Show a strong desire to work for a college education and show willingness to actively participate in a cooperative woman's scholarship environment.
TERMS OF PROGRAM INVOLVEMENT
- Participate in mandatory house events and live cooperatively in both attitude and actions with other members of the House.
- Meet responsibilities for weekly cooking and other household duties.
- Pay house charges and University charges on time.
- Maintain good academic standards.
- Care for and strive to improve the house and property.
- Attend orientations at the beginning of each semester, House meetings approximately twice each month (Fridays at 5:15 p.m.) when school is in session and emergency meetings when necessary.
- Abide by the smoke-free and alcohol-free environment within the House.
- Abide by the no-pets policy within the House.
- Participate in all house functions including House meetings, work jobs, cook crews, and community/ social events.

Who do I contact to get an application to apply for housing at the scholarship house?
Applications are available via Owl Central under the BPWSH page or can be emailed to faubpw96@gmail.com.

What are the application deadlines to apply and reapply for the subsequent year?
New applicants can apply on a rolling bases until the house is full. Each student must reapply each semester. Assuming she meets the same standards, a current resident is given priority for remaining in the subsequent semester. Must have Student Financial Aid Letter, cumulative GPA of 3.0, be a full time student, and be willing to participate in a cooperative environment.

How are the residents selected and who sits on the selection committee?
Selection Committee: Advisor, Financial Aid and BPW Representatives.

How much do scholarship house residents pay per month and what does the fee include?
FAU Scholarship students pay $625 a semester and $125 a month for food, paper products and cleaning products.

What are the responsibilities of the Residents of the Scholarship Houses?
The Scholarship Houses are cooperative living environments that provide campus living for women who meet both the financial and academic requirements. The cooperative living environment means the residents learn skills necessary to run the houses effectively and efficiently. Once selected to live in the house, they elect officers for the semester who are responsible for ensuring that the bylaws of the house are followed. There are weekly meetings of the officers and residents who are responsible for all house operations, including finances, cleaning, purchasing and preparing food.
