Ceremony FALL 2024 Commencement

How

Graduation and Commencement are two separate functions and have separate processes and deadlines. You must apply to graduate in order to receive your degree and diploma; however, you do not have to physically attend the commencement ceremony.

If you are graduating and want to attend the commencement ceremony and receive guest tickets, please be mindful of the deadline to submit an Application for Degree and the deadline to RSVP to the Ceremony which are listed below:

  • Application for Degree deadline for Fall 2024 is Friday, September 6, 2024
  • Graduates will receive an email invitation in their Florida Atlantic email account by 5pm on Friday, October 4, 2024.
  • Graduates must RSVP to the Registrar's Office by Sunday, October 27, 2024  if they intend to participate in the ceremony
  • Everyone should reply to the email whether or not they plan to attend the ceremony.

When

The Fall 2024 ceremonies will be held on Thursday, December 12 and Friday, December 13.  The Commencement Ceremony will last approximately two hours. In order to maintain an orderly and dignified ceremony, one that you and your fellow classmates will want to remember, all graduates and their guests are expected to be present for the entire ceremony. As you make your decision concerning your attendance at Commencement, please keep this in mind.

Graduate Check-In/Procession

Degree candidates should report to the Live Oak Pavilion 1 hour before the beginning of the ceremony. The Live Oak Pavilion is located across from Parking Garage 1 and can also be accessed through the Student Union. For further directions, please use the campus map.

The procession of graduates begins 20 minutes before the start of your ceremony. To ensure you are able to walk in the procession we strongly advise you arrive 1 hour early. For example, if your ceremony is at 12:00pm, the procession of graduates will start at 11:40am. Please plan accordingly so you do not miss any part of your special day. Should you arrive after the procession has started, you will be seated directly in the auditorium with your fellow graduates.

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR GRADUATES PARTICIPATING IN THE CEREMONY: Please notify the Registrar's Office at commencement@jlkmyxgs.com or call (561) 297-2209 at least 10 days prior to the ceremony if you, as a student participating in the ceremony, will require an accommodation due to a disability.

Guest Arrival and Security

Arrival: Doors to the auditorium open 1 hour ahead of the ceremony. Guests are strongly encouraged to arrive early and allow for adequate time to park and pass through the security screening. Guests arriving 20 minutes before the ceremony will be delayed from entering the auditorium until the procession of graduates concludes.

Security: For the safety and security of all graduates and guests, mandatory security screening with metal detectors will occur upon entering the Student Union. All bags and personal belongings will be inspected, so we recommend only bringing essential items to the graduation ceremony. The use of clear plastic or vinyl bags are required to expedite the security check in process. Small clutch bags (approximately the size of a hand - no larger than 6”x4”), with or without a handle or strap, are permitted inside the Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium.

The following items will not be permitted into the Student Union, Carole and Barry Kaye Auditorium, or Live Oak Pavilion: firearms, weapons of any kind, any bag larger than permissible size, large bags, totes, backpacks, camera bags, purses, fanny packs, luggage, bullhorns or noisemakers, signs of any type including Fat Heads, balloons, pepper spray and other items deemed unsafe by Student Union management.

Please plan your arrival accordingly to allow sufficient time to go through security.
